Visitor numbers approached 15,000 at Brecon Agricultural Society’s annual show on Saturday. “It’s probably the highest turn-out the Show’s ever seen.”
“Around 300 trade-stands offered visitors everything from country goods, food and drinks, cosmetics and jewellery, vehicles and equipment and fun experiences making the Show a great day out for everybody.”
“As an agricultural show the number and quality of livestock on display was terrific – far exceeding expectations for a regional show: over 250 ovine and 50 goats – dairy and pygmy, 40 bovine and as many equine. The first exhibition of poultry since avian ‘flu restrictions were lifted, we saw nearly 100 birds of high standard in a highly popular display.”
“The shearing provides an exciting competitive display drawing-in young shearers and fleece-balers from far and wide – and the Wye Valley axemen (and women) provided an extraordinary display of strength and dexterity.
“The Show’s three canine events attract many entries ranging from the highly competitive agility event, the lurchers’ and terriers’ - to the fun novelty event – an introduction for many children and highly appealing for families.”
“The crowd was in awe at the skills of the inspiring Jamie Squibb motorcycle freestyle stunt team and the Jump Dogs Parachute Display Team.”
“Brecon Show’s role in bringing the farming and countryside community together can’t be underestimated. Moreover, it provides a unique opportunity for politicians, authorities, educational establishments, utilities and charities to talk to people face-to-face.”
“A dry day - but not too hot - sets-up perfect conditions for a record-breaking show,” Alan Roberts says. “But our entry fee is modest to attract a wide audience and to appeal to families in today’s cost-of-living crisis.”
”One reason we can achieve this is because the show’s run by a team of volunteers – many of whom invest a lot of time and expertise throughout the year – and more who commit time in set-up, on the day, and in clear-up after the show. A massive thanks to them all!”
